Enough Is Enough

When athletes do well, they are South Africans.

When individuals are caught selling drugs, they are foreigners.

When racists attack you, they are white people.

But when men are called trash, when we are called trash, it’s not all men.

When will we realise that we are the problem?

This is for the daughters and nieces. Sisters and mothers. Aunts and grandmas. Classmates and coworkers. Friends and strangers.

The lady at the shop. uMama in the taxi. The girl on campus. The child at school. The helpers around the country.

The ones jogging in the streets. Playing in the park. Going to work. Ubering to the mall. Or simply sitting at home.

Those wearing miniskirts. Leggings. Tight jeans. Dresses. And bikinis.

The one who was being her polite self. The one who was smiling. The one who was minding her business.

The fallen. The broken. The hurting. The healing. The triggered.

This is for all women. Givers of life. Goddesses.

I know it takes more than words to right these wrongs. But I had to get this off my chest and write these wrongs.

Men have failed. We have failed. I have failed.

To protect you from the world. Rapists. Murderers. Ourselves.

The time for doing better is long overdue. It’s time to act.

No more fake conferences. It’s time for real solutions.

No more spectating. It’s time to be a part of putting an end to the injustices of women and children.

The raping. The killing. The jokes. The remarks. The silence.

Enough is enough.
