The Shared Meal

Humans are, by nature, social animals. If I may add, tribal too. We need our tribe. We need shared cultures. We need shared beliefs.

One of the biggest contributors for the entire race moving forward is often pointed towards our ability to transform, amongst various other things — food.

According to James Boswell, who is said to have written one of the greatest biographies in the English language, every beast has access to food, but what made the man is the ability to cook. Man is a cooking animal.

Cooking is certainly unique to us, humans.
It is unique to us because we are the only animals that can make fire and control it.

Cooking gave us the ability to consume energy-dense and easy to digest food, that in turn allowed our brains to grow bigger. An important reason why we have galloped ahead.

Coming back to food. There is a lot about food that is mentioned, a lot about food that is written, a lot about food that is seen and a lot about food that is heard. But one thing that I have come to notice and appreciate is the role of food in ensuring that, by nature, we continue to be social animals.

We went around building a business around gathering people but along the way, we may have stumbled across what feels like our purpose. The purpose of gathering people, around food.

Rekindling our relationship with food as not just calories but adventures, new people and stories, too.
