Ideas Brunch Xochi 01

Last Summer Solstice, June 21, 2019 — we introduced our vision and work plan for the Xochinalle Cultural Project to our community in Xochimilco, Mexico City.

The meeting was attended by native families, activists, local playwrights and cultural managers. All with a common interest: link our actions and collective creation, sharing and receiving feedback from our experiences and personal care towards cultural and environmental conservation.

Plural dialogues.

For us, it is very important to establish dialogues with people from other communities and contexts, since the proposals and ideas that we presented are not only for our project and services planified for its sustainability. The proposed axes are elements that in general have been forgotten by urbanism and civil power for decades in our City and throughout the world; when the changes we are talking about are simple actions that balance the urban and natural environment.

The project therefore, has its foundations in ecology and contemporary culture, giving space to dialogues and the dissemination of traditional and innovative knowledge, based on a collective community organization. As the conceptual ethos, we’ve made a Manifesto that establishes the criteria for the development of our activities.

XOCHINALLE MANIFESTO

I. GREEN CULTURE We talk about the Ecological Culture in general. In a historical moment, where the whole world comes together to propose alternatives to production and consumption systems to reduce the damage caused by the Climate Crisis, we believe and seek reconciliation between the urban and the rural. The natural and the artificial must soften the edges, resuming and creating systems to achieve an adequate symbiosis for ecosystems and populations.
II. CREATIVITY FOR ALL. We all have the right and the need for culture and its expressions. We encourage and enable experiences of enrichment and social enjoyment.
III. CULTURE FOR WELFARE. Culture has many interpretations, ours speaks of all the activities that are not needed to survive, but are necessary to live in a state of harmony in community.
IV. TRADITION + INNOVATION. We believe that the fusion and sustainability of ancient wisdom can dialogue with the future and its prerogatives…
