When Our Hearts Are Open

I woke up a few mornings ago and the first thing that came to mind was Ram Dass and Natural Compassion. I had some vague dreams the night before, so perhaps one of them triggered this thought…

The B.Sc. Journey

Unlike so many unpredictable events in life, getting into university and acquiring my bachelor’s degree I thought would be a smooth ride.

I would have predicted my exact graduation day from the day I got my admission letter. However, this is Nigeria, and with some factors like the ASUU strike, my best bet would be to predict what year I would be done with school.

Life happens to all men, and it is FAIR because it is UNFAIR to us all.

As an A+ student and one who has always topped class from primary school days, not graduating with my set and having to deal with so many backlogs of courses (what we all call carry-overs) in my final year is something I didn’t imagine would happen, not to me at least.

It’s been a journey since 2017. One filled with so many stories to tell.

How I fell sick and missed most of my exams in a particular semester, how I stayed out of school for a whole semester, deferring an academic session, stepping down to join another set while my friends graduated, having issues processing my deferment and resumption, and even missing exams again in my final year.

Just like Paul and some disciples of Christ, who wrote letters to God’s people in the Bible…………. I bring to you this epistle; one of hope, courage, perseverance, resilience, and determination.

My journey to my bachelor’s degree has formed solid life principles for me to walk through as I journey ahead.

Days I wish I never resumed after my deferment.

Days I regret juggling a 9–5 full time job while being a regular student.

Days I want to call it quit and rock the “dropout” badge with pride.

But this taught me patience; it taught me that LIFE is not like a movie script all acted out in your head with a happy ending, and you’re just waiting for the director to scream ACTION! And it rolls out.

This is for you, who have planned and replanned but things are nowhere near it. Even more infernal than you imagined it to be.

It’s LIFE and the intriguing part of life’s journey is that it’s unprecedented. We wouldn’t enjoy life as much as we do if we truly knew the end from its beginning.

I’ll sign out in a week (actually because I spent a week editing and posting this piece — blame exams though) and until then, I won’t know what I’m doing next.

B.Sc. acquired, what’s next? PhD, M.Sc., Mrs.😂😉🙃👀

My prediction might be wrong. Let’s let nature do its thing.

Till Friday, when I finally hear the elusive phrase [PENS UP!!!] I’ve been yearning for….
